Outreach & Education
People don't often care about things they don't know ... so part of our mission is to educate people about the local birds and environment so they understand the problems they face in these changing times.
You don't need to be an expert to help!
People don't often care about things they don't know ... so part of our mission is to educate people about the local birds and environment so they understand the problems they face in these changing times.
You don't need to be an expert to help!
- Help us take our traveling display to over a dozen events each year. You'll be paired with an experienced volunteer engaging people in conversations. Enthusiasm about birds and nature is the only thing you need to help out with this important task.
- We need high quality photos of birds, butterflies, flowers or other aspects of nature to create educational materials for distribution. Great photographs inspire people to get to know, and care, about nature.
- We need writers and people skilled in layout, design, website design, social media, and education.
- Outdoor Exploration Wranglers. We host special events to provide kids and their families with hands-on direct experience with aspects of nature. Extra hands are always needed for set up, tear down and generally pointing people in the right direction. No experience needed - just a willingness to learn. Can you help at one of these events:
- Damsels & Dragonflies - a fun family event where kids and families catch and get closeup looks at these fascinating creatures - is usually held in June - check the calendar
- Our popular summer BUG HUNT , also for kids and families - is usually held in July - check the calendar
- Tagging Monarchs - we hold multiple events in late August - check the calendar
We also make several presentations on birds, butterflies and native plants available to groups. If you know of a school or group who might like to hear one of these presentations, let us know. Outreach is very rewarding - you meet many nice folks, get more people interested in nature, and spark joy in many kids.
